A friend of mine has recently had a baby so over the past few months I've been making this. Had to do a final rush to finish it and get it off as soon as possible as he's a bouncing 10lb 2 oz (4.610kg) and he'll be grown out of it before long! LOL
and here's close up for all you knitters.
It's an interesting pattern. You start off with one square that's decreased on the diagonal and build up from there. I'm doing myself a waistcoat in the same pattern with a random cotton yarn. It might look really naff on me when it's done but the completed version at the Hobbycraft show looked fab.

Fab knitted piece of art. Like the unusual square design ! Simple but looks really great !
What an unusual pattern and so effective Carol. I bet your waistcoat looks great. I've just reknitted a cardigan I made a year ago and hated it on me. The wool was quite expensive so I couldn't waste it - thank goodness the reknit looks OK.
Wow, Carol, this is stunning and I'm sure Eddie will love it too.
I love the pattern and colours. I can't knit because I don't have the know how to fix mistakes.
Carol, I love the baby cardigan. It is a stunning pattern. I have got to have a go....been collecting wool for years.
Looks quite tricky, though.
You have inspired me!!

Am not a knitter, but I love your little cardigan its beautiful. Annette x
This is amazing. It looks like you have quilted it with knitting. Such a lucky little guy. Happy creating...
Love the cardi Carol but all I can say is 'OUCH!' What a whopper of a baby. Our 6 week old grandee is just 10lb 8oz.
Can't wait to see your waistcoat, I bet it'll be fab, x
Ooh, that's nice, Carol. I do miss knitting. Great colour mix. I like that pattern - very unusual, as you say. Was it knitted all together or was it in squares, then sewn together?
Oh, this is lovely Carol. I'm sure your friend is going to love it. The colours are beautiful and it's a very modern looking design. Wow, over 10lb in weight - that's some bonny baby!

Ooh, 10lb........I bet THAT hurt!
Lovely little cardi, the rainbow colours are gorgeous and I love the square design. Looks almost as though it's been crocheted.
Oooh this is gorgeous, I absolutely love the colours and love to see little one's in knitted clothes. 10lb, wow that's not so little LOL. My daughter was only 5lb. Little one will look fab in your creation. Tracy Evans x
Is there no end to your talents? This is lovely and looks so complicated.
That is such a special gift and much more thoughtful than shop bought. Lynne x
How sweet! What a lovely gift. They do grow so fast when they are that little.
I know who this is for and I'm sure that she will adore it (I do) She loves colour so this is just perfect.
