This 'n' That

I have decided that this year I am going to learn more about quilting.  I've been wanting to have a go for a long while but not known where to start and whaddya know, I have a quilting shop about 2 miles from my house hidden in a back street.  So last Thursday I went to my first class and made my first item.  Because it's a beginners class, we have started with a small item to get an idea of what's coming later.  I think one of my main reasons for needing a class is that I cannot cut a straight or accurate line to save my life and I'm hoping that this will teach me.

Anyway, finished result below.  I'm so pleased with it and thoroughly enjoyed making it. It may not look like much but a lot of careful stitching went into it!   This week, we start on a cushion.  Watch this space! lol

It was my mate Pen's birthday at the end of last week. As many of  you know, she is an obsessed Alice Cooper fan. My inspiration and starting point was Leandra over on the PaperArtsy Blog here.  I won't repeat the instructions as they are available on the blog if you want to have a go.  I thought it was going to be just awful at one point......

The pink coloured Grunge Paste looked just disgusting in my view.  You can see the skeleton/bat/skull influence. Once I'd started adding more paint in different colours and finally finished off with a brushing of Treasure Gold it looked completely different. The wings are a Tim Holtz die.  Apologies for the pic not being the best  - only had time to take it at night with a bright light over it.  If you click to enlarge it's much more detailed

Well done on stepping out of your comfort zone and heading over to the quilting side, your little cushion looks fab.

I'm sure Pen loved your Alice creation, although I did think it would be black - lol

I'd like to learn quilting, too, Carol. Your cushion is beautiful - love the fabrics. I made a quilt for my daughter's doll crib about 20 years ago - all hand stitched as I didn't have a machine then.

I've got to agree with the 'disgusting' pink lol Love the finished artwork though.

I love the fabrics you chose for your pincushion and your stitching is excellent. Patchwork has too much maths for me to enjoy completely! Love your friend's heart - I bet she does too.

And I love your rusty heart - what a brilliantly designed gift for an Alice Cooper lover!
