Finn's main way of working is to create her piece with anything that happens to be to hand (washers, paper clips, poppers, zips etc) and then spray it with ink - often black. It takes a lot of courage to do this to your beloved creation because you could quite likely completely ruin it but I'm very happy with the way it turned out.
I sprayed the black ink through a stencil to add some interest and used shrink plastic cogs to decorate left from another project (amongst other things). I also liberally finger painted the embellishments with cream to help bring it all together.
This September's challenge on Happy Daze is Steampunkery so in view of the cogs and the grunginess, I thought I'd enter. they can always chuck me out if it's not steampunk enough lol. There's also a new Steampunk Junkies challenge site - looks like this will be fun.
EDIT: The guys over at Steampunk Junkies have been kind enough to choose me as the winner on their challenge. I feel it's only fair to share this with Val, the owner of Snazzy Stamping who's class it was that led to it's creation so congratulations Val!! :)

Ooooo yes, I'm loving the Anna inspiration to this project, so glad you enjoyed the class:) x
It'll be steampunkery enough Carol - lol.
You are sooooo lucky to live near this fab shop and be able to attned their superb workshops. It reminds me sooo much of the wonderful craft shop that used to be about 2 miles down the road from me, but alas, no more :0(

I absolutely love this Carol... I can see the Finn inspiration, but love your take on where it ended up. Gorgeous layered paper frames within each segment, and the colours are scrumptious - absolutely in love with it!

Wish I lived near somewhere that did those type of workshops. Somehow my area has got barren!
I can, however, visit your blog and drool over all the lovely things you do, whether workshop based or created by you, everything is always inspiring.
Love this triptych - glad you and Penny had a great time.

This is really fabulous Carol. IKWYM about spraying with black over something you already like and it can goes so wrong if you're not careful, but your piece looks perfect.
Your finished project looks wonderful, I chickened out entirely on the black ink lol! Many thanks to you and Penny for your company and for sharing your ideas and inspiration xx
